Baklava ist ein traditionelles Süßgebäck aus hauchdünnem Filoteig, gefüllt mit gehackten Nüssen und mit Sirup oder Honig getränkt. Die Ursprünge des Gebäcks reichen bis in die Antike zurück, mit Wurzeln im Nahen Osten, Kleinasien und dem östlichen Mittel meerraum. Die heutige Form von Baklava entwickelte sich im Osmanischen Reich, besonders im Palast von Topkapi in Istanbul im 15. und 16. Jahrhundert. Heute gilt Baklava in vielen Ländern wie der Türkei, Griechenland, Armenien, dem Iran und zahlreichen arabischen Staaten als kulturelles Erbe und wird vor allem zu festlichen Anlässen genossen.
